After being an educator for 37 years, I recently retired due to a health issue. During that 37 years, I worked with high school students who had learning issues as well as K-3 who were classified as 'Educationally Handicapped". Leaving the field of special education, I then went on to teach regular fourth, fifth and sixth grade. The last three years of my career, I was chosen to become an instructional facilitator where I supervised teachers in three different schools.
Although I have very high expectations of both myself and my students, I like my classroom to have a warm and inviting feeling. Children need to know that they are in a safe and accepting environment. Classroom climate is very important. Adding activities and incorporating meaningful and interesting lessons are always present in my lesson plans.
