TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching since August 2005. I began my career in a Title One school teaching fifth grade ELA. Since then, I have taught 4th and 5th grade ELA and Social Studies. I have taught low performing students to the highest of the high performing students. I currently teach 5th grade ELA and Social Studies.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I prefer to teach through student-to-student interaction...meaning I allow students to have 75% of the conversation while I have 25%. It has been my experience that while I know I am the teacher, students learn from their peers. However, it is MY responsibility to ascertain that the conversations are educationally based and correct. This teaching style has been most effective as evidenced by student achievement.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am the mother of three and happily married. I absolutely LOVE to read (poetry) and WRITE. Poetry is my PASSION...I'm "in love" with words. When I hear someone say a word I'm unfamiliar with, I immediately look up the meaning. Conversations - face to face - is imperative and although I text and email like the rest of society, I prefer to talk while looking at people!
