I started my career as a Title I Reading teacher right out of college. I was short on experience but not enthusiasm. The next year I moved into a Kindergarten classroom and stayed for 7 years. When I found out I was pregnant with my second son, I knew it was time for a change, so I moved to third grade. I was self-contained for a year, and then we departmentalized. Now I am in my second year teaching Science and Social Studies.
I love an interactive approach to teaching. We do a lot of whole-group conversation and then break into small learning groups or independent practice time, coming back together at the end to share.

I started my college career in a Pre-Pharmacy path at King College (now University) in Bristol, TN. I switched majors and schools after my sophomore year. I earned my Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, K-6, from East TN State University in Johnson City. Once I began teaching, I went back and earned both my Masters and Educational Specialist degrees in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University.
