I am high high school science teacher and department chair that has been a part of two NGSS aligned curriculum redesign teams both at the high school and junior high (6-8) levels. I believe that all students should be provided with engaging, hands-on, and inquiry driven lessons that are supported with strong formative feedback for them to grow. Although I have not taught the elementary grades I do have three young boys who have allowed me to see the need to provide great elementary school teachers with supportive, NGSS aligned science materials that also provide the teachers with the necessary explanations and background resources. I have experience teaching and designing curriculum in all major areas of science.
I believe that all students have the ability to do science because problem solving is fundamental to being human. To accomplish this goal classrooms need to be a safe and open environment where students are praised not just for being correct but for critically thinking even if their final conclusion is not correct. I also believe in and practice standards based grading, multiple and varied assessments, and alternate grading scales such as the four point scale.

I have three young boys who enjoy learning about the world around them as do all of their friends. I have had the opportunity to conduct any science lessons as "teacher for the day" in each of their elementary school classes and presented in 3 science nights for grades preK - 5.
