I have tutored algebra students for more than 10 years, and have two years of formal classroom experience teaching Algebra. I also taught bilingual kindergarten for five years. Currently I teach a small group of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students with special needs with the goal of preparing them for algebra by the time they reach 9th grade. I strive daily to give them an excellent foundation in the basic skills required so that they are ready for more advanced math when they leave my class.
I think it's important to give students LOTS of practice with the new material, lots of ways to process it (out loud, in writing, using their bodies), and lots of chances to be successful.
