TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 28 years experience teaching math in North Carolina. Eighteen years of those have been at the high school level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I wish I could teach with group problem-solving (student-centered) all of the time. It's slow, though, so I do find myself doing some teacher-directed learning. I focus on the 8 standards of mathematical practice in every lesson. I LOVE the Common Core Standards, and have spent a lot of time tailoring lessons to meet the wonderful thinking that it elicits.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am NBPTS certified. I was Clay County Schools Teacher of the year in 2004.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned: my high school diploma from West Forsyth High School in Clemmons, NC my BS in secondary mathematics education from North Carolina State University my MA in secondary mathematics education from Piedmont University in Demorest, GA.
