I'm a 2nd grade teacher with experience in kindergarten, 3rd grade, and special ed.
I do guided reading and focus heavily on literacy foundations with a Daily 5-type system. For math, I like to use as many concrete supplements as possible, and tap into the successful learning modes of my strugglers in a constructivist way. -But I also love systematic, spiraling practice and believe there's a place for it, especially in primary. Also, we're 1:1 with Chromebooks in my classroom, so I'm always looking for ways to incorporate the Google apps into our objectives, and teach my students how to work and think in a "cloud" world. My current goals include moving as closely toward paperless as possible for the primary grades.
Best Teacher Ever cards from my students! :-)
I have a B.A. from Purdue University in elementary ed., with a minor in math/computer science. I've also studied graphic art and psychology. All of these influences show up in my classroom in one way or another.
We have two girls and a jack russell. When I'm not teaching, planning, researching, or creating, I can be found around the bonfire with my family and neighbors, or cooking up some family favorites in the kitchen, or binge watching something tasteless. :-) But it's mostly hard to pull me away from the never-ending teacher to-do list.
