After reading Hey, Little Ant by Phillip and Hannah Hoose, students can organize their thoughts on whether to squish or not squish the ant. Then they can write a letter to the kid persuading him what they think he should do or write an opinion piece.
Students can fill out the organizer to describe a character's traits, challenge, and reactions throughout a story. I have had 100% success with this organizer. Students then copy their notes into a 1-2 paragraph character analysis.
