I have been teaching for 17 years all in primary grades: pre-K; kindergarten and that past 14 years in first grade. I have a BS degree in Marketing Management in which I worked as a Pharmaceutical Rep. I then went back to school and got my Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education. My masters is in Multicultural Education. My post masters work has been focused on expanding my knowledge on how to teach children with special needs, specifically within the PDD spectrum [autism & aspergers] as well as those who face sensory needs and executive function deficits. In addition, I have written articles for Great Schools.org; reviewed and edited books (such as How the Brain Learns by David Sousa); helped to rewrite/revise the 1st Grade Math Brainquest cards; and I have contributed 2 different chapters to "Best Practices for Elementary Teachers and More Best Practices for Elementary Teachers by Randi Stone. The past several years I have been consulting for Scholastic, Inc on a few different book club projects.
Teaching through workshop is my primary teaching style, where I am modeling through mini-lessons, creating opportunities for active engagement to practice the skills and then sending the students off to apply the skills while building a toolbox with a repertoire of strategies for each specific content area. Facilitating my students' learning at their appropriate developmental level is key to what I believe adds to each child's educational career successes.

As a mom of three grown children, 24, 22, and 21, a wife to my wonderful supportive husband of 25 years and a first grade teacher, I appreciate the unique gifts of every child. My passion is working with children who require a different pathway to achieving their educational successes. Literacy is a passion of mine in which I believe that every subject should be integrated and taught through a literacy focus. Teaching is my dream career. It never feels like a job...it is such a gift to be able to help our children create their futures!
