TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Ten years of experience with English-language learners from many different language backgrounds and at many different levels have given me experience with everything from teaching the alphabet to a 13-year old who grew up in a refugee camp to helping more advanced students learn the parts of the cell. It can be challenging to teach ESL well because of the tremendous range of students you may have in one class. At the same time, it is incredibly rewarding to watch your students grow.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My own experience with English-language learners is that they learn best when lessons are student-active, visual or experiential, and when new words and concepts are linked to what students already know. My lessons for students who are learning English are a mix of hands-on, project-based, and practice, practice, practice.
