TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am passionate about supporting children in their learning journeys and an advocate for early childhood education. I have had over thirty years experience as an early childhood teacher. I have also run educational sessions for 2-5 year old children and their parents, run courses to assist parents in helping their children read and provided individual tutoring session for children. I have written a variety of educational materials for different publishers and have always written teaching resources for use in my own classroom. I love the opportunity that teaching provides for my own learning and the outlet it provides for my creativity.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I create a welcoming classroom environment where children are respected and affirmed through positive feedback and support. I place children at the centre of the curriculum by making connections with their lives and interests. I immerse children in language, modelling target language, providing opportunities for meaningful talk and writing, and feedback to support learning. I include literature, song and opportunities for movement throughout the day. I provide hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for practice until mastery. I start where the children are at and take their learning as far as each can go, providing opportunities to develop areas of weakness and strengthen abilities. I encourage the development of thinking skills, reasoning and creativity.
