My teaching career began in Los Angeles in 1993 as a Teach for America recruit. I entered teaching as bilingual 5th grade teacher in South Central L.A. Since then, I have taught 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grade at 4 different schools in my 25 years of teaching, all which have been Title One schools. My experience in teaching has come from being both in and out of the classroom as a teacher and as a bilingual coordinator. My first two schools were in Los Angeles, and the later 2 schools were in Texas. I am currently teaching 6th grade in Conroe, TX.
I teach as if my own children are a part of my classroom. I have two girls, age 13 and 11 whom I love dearly. Like most mothers, there is nothing I would not sacrifice for them. I prepare and teach everyday to the best of my abilities because each child in my classroom is someone else's child. Every student deserves a dedicated teacher who is intent on ensuring quality education.
National Boards certification in 2003 Phi Kappa Phi honors with my Masters in Educational Administration
I was educated through Los Angeles Unified School District during the time of voluntary integration. My family and I lived in East Los Angeles and when an opportunity arose to integrate into a economically wealthier school in junior high, my parents and I felt that would provide me with better educational opportunity in the long run. I was bused for junior high and high school to Brentwood and then to the Palisades. There I learned how economics and parent literacy plays a crucial part in a child's education. Through the bus ride took over two hours of my day, I learned to use the time to study and read. Through perseverance and discipline, I made honors while taking AP classes. I applied to Stanford and received a scholarship which allowed me to attend. I later received a Masters at Cal State Dominguez while teaching.
