I am finishing up my teacher training, during which I have taught in a range of schools in Years 1 (5-6 years), 4 (8-9 years) and 5 (9-10 years). I specialise in mathematics, but also have a keen interest in English, arts and languages! I'll be teaching in Year 1 or 3 next year - not sure which yet!
I like to be very creative and child-led in my teaching. I enjoy getting the children moving and working in groups in a range of settings, so that they're not just writing in the same style all of the time! I give purpose to the learning by setting real life contexts and scenarios.
I try to stick mainly to positive reward-based behaviour management systems, but obviously this is not always possible! I'm looking into whole brain/power teaching, created by Chris Biffle.
I did well in school and enjoyed a range of subjects. I studied English Language, English Literature, Art and French to A Level (18 years old). At university, I studied a three-year Primary Education degree, with a specialism in mathematics in my final 2 years.
I live in the north east of England - born and bred! When I'm not teaching or planning, I'll usually be travelling, skiing, working out or doing arty things!
