This is my 13th year teaching high school English Language Arts. I taught tenth grade English II, World Literature, for eight years, ninth and eleventh for one semester each (long story!), and now this is my fifth year teaching twelfth grade English IV, British Literature. I also have my ESL certification and teach sheltered English IV.
I am very laid back. I am convinced that kids WANT to do well. If I give the kids thorough, step-by-step instructions and an engaging lesson, they will want to participate and do their best. I never use a stodgy old thing when a jazzy new thing can achieve the same purpose. I'm the queen of the YouTube clips and try to keep things fresh and interesting for everyone involved.
My honors come out of the mouths of happy, graduating kiddos at the end of each year.
I have a BBA in Marketing from Texas Wesleyan University and a minor in English Language Arts. I'm certified in English Language Arts 8-12 and English as a Second Language 8-12.
When I was in 12th grade, I remember thinking about my horribly boring Honors English teacher: "English is the best, most interesting subject in the whole world, and this woman is killing it. I should be an English teacher when I grow up. I KNOW I could make this subject fun and interesting for my students!" It took me several years to get back to that idea, but I'm here now, and that's one of my biggest goals as a teacher.
