TEACHING EXPERIENCE

You name them, I've taught them. From teaching and living at a residential school for multiply handicapped students of all ages to teaching for twenty-one years in a middle school classroom, I've enjoyed teaching students of every kind. After teaching, I worked as a middle school science education specialist at the Alabama State Department of Education for six years before joining with our regional in-service center to develop professional learning. My heart is in doing what's best for kids in everything I do.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I thrive on bringing out children's creativity, and love to push students to think outside their everyday boundaries. Students learn best when they actively connect their learning to their lives, and to other academic learning they've experienced. My teaching style combines bringing in their experiences and pushing them to stretch beyond them. More formally, I embrace the 5E +I/A learning cycle, creative ongoing formative assessment, utilizing research-based reading and other learning strategies, and multiple modalities in my lessons and assessments.
