I am a recently retired teacher of 37 years. Most of my teaching has been at the Middle Years level, although I have taught from Grade 3 to Grade 10. My teaching has basically been with the core subjects of Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Phys.Ed.I love teaching, and it must have been evident to our three children who have all chosen education as their careers and also established themselves as excellent teachers. I am currently active as a K-12 substitute teacher in several schools. This has been a great experience to see many different classrooms and the uniqueness and creativity that different teachers bring to their classrooms. I have also been a Faculty Adviser for University of Manitoba and Brandon University to help supervise and mentor aspiring teachers as they work toward their Education degrees.
The feedback about my teaching style that I have received most from my colleagues is that I am very organized. By carefully planning well in advance it has helped me to have direction in what I teach and it has also allowed me to be very flexible within structure. I love games and activities and have incorporated many into my classroom. I believe that healthy competition is highly motivational and deeply enhances learning. I believe that learning should be fun!
