TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am originally from Colombia.While in Colombia, I was the director of the Spanish for Foreigners Program of one of the universities in my city town. I did research on Applied Linguistics and Discourse Analysis. I have been an instructor of Spanish for more than 25 years. During my first three years in the States, I worked as a Visiting Faculty, teaching Spanish in different Universities. In my present job as a reading in Spanish specialist and the coordinator of the Spanish Immersion program in a Christian School, I help students increase their vocabulary and consolidate the structure of the language. I want to immerse the students in the joy of reading while making connections and discoveries in another language. My passion is writing. I have written text books, memoirs, research chapter on linguistics, a research book on ancient and biblical Hebrew, a book of poems for children and a series of guided reading books for children. All my writing has been done in Spanish.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Although I like teaching students of all ages, I have a special connection and love for the young children. I enjoy making them laugh. I strive to make the classroom an environment where love, joy, peace, and the other fruits of the Spirit are present. I want to teach children about other cultures and to persuade them of the fact that by learning Spanish they will be able in a near future to communicate with families in Hispanic communities and, by showing love to them, bring them to Jesus.
