I have taught special education for 36 years. My first year I worked with Developmentally Disabled adults. For the next ten years I taught DD children age 6 -12. For the last 25 years, I have been an Early Intervention Specialist working with children from birth to 3 years. My classroom was both in the home and center based play groups.
Working with children with special needs is of course primarily one-on-one. With as many as 8 little ones in a play group with one tor two other assistants/ancillary services, you quickly learn how to multi-task and provide activities that are geared to each individual.
Received "Special Educator Recognition" from the Special Education Regional Resource Center.
I received my B.S. in Education from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. I graduated with dual majors in Elementary Education and Special Education. As certification requirements changed, I returned to school to become certified in Special Education sub categories, and finally in Early Intervention. I am also a certified Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule evaluator.
I have been married (to the same man!) for 34 years. I have two sons, one grandchild, two dogs and one cat.
