This is a fun project that combines real events from the 1920's with the slang terms of the 1920's as well. My students really enjoy comparing the slang terms of their social media with the slang terms of the Roaring 20's. I give my students one

After I teach the students our lesson on Compromise in the Decade of Crisis, this is an excellent summative activity. The students have to create a "license plate" like our current license plates that addresses the issue of compromise in the 1850's.

This is a great way to introduce the Decade of Crisis leading up the Civil War. It is a fake story with fake names that replace the true story of the murder of Elijah Lovejoy and the behavior of John Brown in Kansas and at Harper's Ferry. It opens a

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching 21 years. The first six years were on the middle school level. The last 15 years I have taught at the high school level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a non conventional teacher that is always willing to try new things in the classroom. Each year, I feel like I add more things to help my students learn better in my classroom.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have received "teacher of the month" on numerous occasions from my students. In 2017, I was awarded the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri in Secondary Education - Social Studies. I received my Mater's Degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Missouri. I received my Maters in Education from McKendree University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

My store is named after my dad. He lost his arm in an accident at work. He had to reteach himself everything - how to tie shoes, put his pants on and even how to eat. But he did it! And he never complained and rarely asked for help. He was an inspiration to anybody that he met - and certainly to me and his five other children! He was one remarkable human being.
