TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently a Program Coach in the Washington Elementary School District. My position allows me to support teachers with instructional strategies (observations, feedback, modeling) as well as provide research based professional development to my staff every week. My other focus as an instructional coach is working with data and assisting teachers to focus their instruction based upon how the students perform. The new leadership team at my school is really fun to work with and I'm continually learning. Although I miss the classroom this year, I now have the privilege of teaching multiple age levels. I have taught first grade for the past eight years in Arizona. I work primarily with English Language Learners, although I have had diversity through the classes I have worked with. My class size has been anywhere from 33 students (as my largest group) to 18 students (amazing the difference it makes to have a small group!) Last year my group of students scored within the basic language proficiency level using the AZELLA with several refugee students that speak several languages other than my most common Spanish speaking community. I'm also currently the outreach specialist for my new school's before and afterschool program. I find ways to involve parents and provide support with weekly adult/student classes. I spent the past four years as the coordinator of my previous school's before and after school program.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love having structure and routines in my classroom. I was always really good at organizing and prepping my classroom so that I was prepared. I feel that in any classroom, differentiation and meeting the needs of your specific group of students is crucial. I am loving the new ways I am able to look at data and growth thanks to my new administration and have several tips on how to progress monitor and check for understanding that doesn't take the teacher's precious time. I love reading and love teaching all ages decoding and comprehension strategies. As a classroom teacher, I enjoyed incorporating games, music and movement into my daily routines.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I've been lucky enough to continue to grow professionally in my District. I have been fortunate enough to receive recognition from my peers and supervisors for doing my job! I love kids and miss the classroom but I do enjoy teaching and giving ideas to my peers. My new role as program coach allows me to plan professional development as well as catch up on research to create the best activities I can for TPT!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a BA in Elementary Education. I also have Reading and Structured English Immersion endorsements.
