I have worked in education for 27 years, mostly with kindergarteners. I have worked in a couple of southern states to include Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, and presently Georgia. Each of those schools in those various states provided me with many resources and different teaching styles that in ways helped shape how I teach today. After obtaining my Education Specialist Degree in 2007, I learned many new ideas about best practices in education based on brain study.
Realzing that children learn best by doing, I mostly utilize the effective teacher model which includes lots of modeling and practicing by doing. I also use technology daily whether it be powerpoint programs or the promethean board resources. I also utilize differentiated small group instruction for Reading and provide literacy centers daily. In math students explore math concepts using math tubs, games, and math journals.
I was awarded the title of teacher of the year in 1997-98 and 2012-13 school terms. I helped to write a technology grant and was able to be one of 5 teachers in my school to receive a fully funded technology classroom with laptops, activboards, camera, video camera, etc...
I received my B S in Education from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus, GA. and received my M. S. and Education Specialist Degree from Nova Southeastern University.
