I have taught Visual Arts for 24 years. I taught primary school art for a year and have been teaching high school for 23. I have taught Adult Education classes and Elementary School Summer Enrichment classes as well.
I try to teach art to reach every students learning style and to figure out their strengths. Not everyone student will have drawing ability, but they might find their connection to art in pottery. I work to help them find their artistic passion but to also open their minds to an appreciation for many areas.
I was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2010. I have experienced the joy of having a student win a National Scholastic Art and Writing Award along with many students winning Scholastic awards on the Regional level. Two of my students have won the Congressional Art Award.
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts k-12 in Art Education from Mt Vernon Nazarene College and my Master of Education in Art Education from East Carolina University. I earned my National Board Certification in 2014 and was chosen for the Govenor's Teacher Network program in 2014 for the state of NC.
Not only have I dedicated my career to sharing my love of the arts with students, I am also a practicing artist (well....since my kids have grown up!). I work in a variety of media but my addiction is floor loom weaving.
