Hello! We have been lucky to have taught kindergarten in the same school with each other for 25 years! We teach at a small, private school that specializes in gifted education. We began creating materials when we realized that finding activities for bright and young children was a difficult task. Many times worksheets were too easy or not engaging. And we enjoy hand drawing the materials we use in class. We love that our classroom materials look unique.
We find that humor and empathy work wonders in the classroom. Children trust adults that are honest and supportive. Our special interest is in Social and Emotional Learning. We work hard at our school to promote these skills. In order to learn and focus, children need to feel respected and loved. Part of that respect is creating engaging and challenging work for everyone.
Every day that we help a child feel happy and well-adjusted, is a day that we are personally awarded. We don't hold any ribbons or trophies yet, just pats on the back from parents, colleagues, and our students. We are very proud of our joint accomplishment of publishing the book, "Rexy and the Four Steps to Friendship." Our book is about a friendly dinosaur named Rexy who learns to use words to solve problems with friends. We have been featured in Scholastic Teaching Magazine, and in local print and broadcast media.
Our Education History: Julie "Sugie" Sugarman holds a BSW in Social Work and a Master's in Education with a California Teaching Credential. Mary "Ruppie" holds a Bachelor's in Journalism and a California Teaching Credential.
It is our opinion that teachers are the most creative bunch out there. We know what children need and how to keep their attention. We are so happy to have a chance to share our creativity with the TPT community. Thank you for reading our bio!
