TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught visual arts in grades 9 – 12 for 25 years. I loved working with high school students but, now that I have retired, also find that I love volunteering in my granddaughter’s kindergarten class as well! I have been a Master Teacher and a BTSA Provider to several beginning teachers over the years and have taught a class at Phoenix University teaching teachers how to teach art.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I make sure that I am strongly supporting the academic side of art while making it fun and meaningful for the student. Aside from stating clear and attainable objectives for my students, two underlying personal goals of each of my lessons are always: 1) to change the students’ visual perception and 2) to develop their aesthetic awareness. At first they don't get this, but once they realize how much art affects their brain, they think it's pretty cool!
