I currently work in the Massachusetts Public Schools as a Reading Specialist at an elementary school. I work with students in grades K-5 daily in different areas of literacy instruction ranging from phonics to writing organization. Prior to my employment in the public schools I was employed privately as a reading interventionist for students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities.
Before I even knew I wanted to be a teacher I was an artist. I wanted to go to college and study fine art to perfect my painting style, but I ended up making art my hobby and teaching my passion. My style of teaching is visual and creative, but, most importantly, structured and supported. I like to introduce various literacy skills, then reinforce the skills in fun ways to make my lesson meaningful. My goal is for my students to understand how the classroom activities will help them to become successful outside of school. Each small literacy lesson become another tool for my students to use in the world.
