Pinnacle Performance Learning Group is a small group of K-16 practitioners devoted to school reform and continuous school improvement. We call ourselves the Educator Effectiveness Ambassadors! We strongly believe in the value of job-embedded professional development held on-site and led by school personnel. Because all but one of our team members are full-time practitioners, it isn’t feasible to physically support all systems and schools to the degree the team would like: day-to-day and one-to-one. Our systems and schools appreciate our products and services so much that they continually encourage us to share our work on Teachers Pay Teachers. So, here we are! We are excited to provide the Teachers Pay Teachers community with the tools that our data support will help schools and systems build capacity, competency, and capability to effect positive change and learning outcomes at all levels and for all stakeholders. We offer our products and services for an individual school system, a school, or an educator's use. PPLG’s co-founder, Demeka Breedlove-Mays, serves as PPLG’s Chief Academic Officer. Demeka is the visionary behind PPLG’s products and services. Demeka is respected for helping struggling schools make significant achievement gains, improve school programs, and enhance leader and teacher effectiveness to improve the total school program. Demeka has over 20 years of teaching and instructional leadership experience serving in urban and rural school districts in Florida, North Carolina, and Florida. Demeka has served in various capacities including DOE Education Program Specialist, DOE Teacher and Leader Evaluation Specialist, district Director of Curriculum & Instruction, district School Improvement Specialist, district Data Administrator, school Curriculum Administrator, Academic Coach, Test Coordinator, Department Chair, Assistant Athletics Director, RTI Coordinator, High School English Literature and Composition teacher (grades 9-12, remedial, honors, AP, and Gifted), and college writing adjunct professor.
Demeka and the remaining PPLG team members believe that all students can succeed at learning when schools, leaders, and teachers are equipped with the tools to maximize student and teacher success. Therefore, we aim to provide ready-to-use professional development products that integrate pedagogical literacy and application into immediate practice. In addition, we offer teaching products that promote and support effective scaffolding, gradual release of responsibility, and balanced, disciplinary literacy across the content areas and grade bands that optimize students’ opportunity for success within and across the content areas.
No matter what roles we each currently fulfill, effective teaching drives the core of our work. Thus, it is aptly so that our CAO, Demeka, is passionate about delivering effective instruction to both adult and student learners. She was the 2005 Miami-Dade County Teacher of the Year and served on numerous educational boards and initiatives to include work with state legislators, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, and former First Lady/Secretary of State Hillary Rodham-Clinton. Among the numerous honors and awards she has received, Demeka was inducted in the National Library of Congress for Excellence in Education.
PPLG’s Educator Effectiveness Ambassadors hold degrees in Engineering, Educational Leadership, Special Education, Elementary Education, and Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies Secondary Education. Our Chief Academic Officer, Demeka, has a Bachelor of Arts in English Education and a Masters of Science Education in Curriculum, Instruction, and Technology. She's held leadership and secondary teaching certifications and National Board Certification in Adolescent Literature and English Language Arts.
Demeka has planned and facilitated national, state, district, and school-wide professional development and workshops for leaders teachers, parents, and students, and she has delivered keynote addresses and presented at education conferences. As PPLG’s principal consultant, she works regularly with practicing district and school administrators, instructional leaders, and teachers on all areas of continuous school improvement.
