Characters, story lines, and themes that appeal to young children have been carefully developed into books that really ‘work.’ Before publication, a dedicated team of classroom, literacy, and Reading Recovery teachers reviews each book. Carefully selected reading vocabulary, easy sentence structure, clear fonts, careful spacing, and attention to line breaks, work together to assist in the development of strong reading strategies. Dynamic photographs and appealing illustrations provide the reader with support and extension of the text.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Michele Dufresne, a literacy staff developer for Pioneer Valley Books, has been a classroom teacher, language arts specialist, a Reading Recovery teacher leader, and consultant in school districts across Massachusetts and the nation. She is the author of several literacy professional resource guides and books for teachers including Word Solvers: Making Sense of Letters and Words, published by Heinemann, and numerous children’s books, including Bella and Rosie (pictured above with Dr. Dufresne), Jasper the Cat, and Spaceboy stories published by Pioneer Valley Books. She holds a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts.
