TEACHING EXPERIENCE

After graduation, I taught fifth grade at Gulf Stream Elementary in Miami, Florida. The following year I traveled to California and taught at Hickory Elementary in Torrance. I started with a 4/5 combination class and then taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. When my district started a gifted and talented program, I was hired to travel to different schools to work with gifted students in grades 3-6. After five years teaching in the gifted program in Torrance, my husband and I moved to Santa Barbara, California where I taught gifted and talented students at Mountain View Elementary School in grades 3-6. In 1976, I started an educational publishing company called The Learning Works and published over 150 books for teachers. After selling my company in 2000, I started another company called Educational Consulting Works and did free-lance educational writing. TpT is now my permanent home and venue for sharing my teaching ideas with others!

MY TEACHING STYLE

As a classroom teacher, I have always tried to create a learning environment where students learn to think for themselves. I like a classroom that is well-organized but buzzing with diverse, challenging, and creative activities that are fun for kids.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I received the Teacher’s Choice Award presented by Learning Magazine for the following books I authored: "Teaching Values-Reaching Kids", "I Love Lists!", and "What Do You Think? A Kid’s Guide to Dealing with Daily Dilemmas". I also received the Benjamin Franklin Award for my book "The Safety Book for Active Kids" and the American Bookseller Pick of the List for "Earth Book for Kids".

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and received a Masters in Administration/Supervision from Cal State Northridge.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have been a workshop presenter at several California Association for the Gifted conferences. I am passionate about writing curriculum, and my activity books have been published by The Learning Works, Creative Teaching Press, Newbridge Communications, Publications International, Prentice Hall, and other educational companies. In creating teaching resources for my TpT store, Pizzazz Learning, I want to offer high-quality products that cover the basics, are easy to use, save teachers time, and make learning fun for kids!
