TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for eighteen years, mainly in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. Recently I was provided the opportunity to move into teaching High Ability Learners. I have had the opportunity to work outside of the classroom, coaching teachers and helping to design and implement lessons in their classrooms. All of my teaching opportunities have been in the inner city, which has helped me become great at creative lessons, differentiating my instruction, and helping my students make large achievement gains.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my classroom, my students know that they are the most important things to me. They have become part of my family. I will always refer to them as 'my kids', even when they have left our school and moved on to middle and high school. We work hard in my classroom learning how to appreciate each other for our similarities and differences. My students know that I expect a lot out of them and they always rise to the occasion.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been a district presenter several times, offering my opinions and insight on the new curriculum that we have adopted.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Elementary Education. I have known since I was 8, that I wanted to be a teacher, thanks to an amazing 2nd grade teacher! After I got my first teaching job, I began working on my Masters in Elementary Education. I also hold a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction as well as Educational Administration. My current school has a high ESL population, so I went back to earn an endorsement in English Language Learners. My students know how important education is to me and understand that it is the one thing that nobody can ever take from them.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In my spare time, I am a wife and mother of two school aged children. I love to read and scrapbook. As a family, we enjoy going to football, basketball, & volleyball games on the weekends. Although we live in the city, and I teach in the inner city, my own children spend a lot of time with their cows on their grandparent's farm. They love working with livestock!
