I am now a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist but started my journey many year sago with young children. I have worked in daycare, a Montessori school, and taught for an ABC (Arkansas Better Chance) program. In addition, I have worked in day treatment programs where we integrate school and mental health interventions. I have been a school-based therapist for the last 4 years working closely with school counselors and teachers in a variety of schools to help each child become successful. I currently teach on the university level as well so while it is a different age group, I have not forgotten what it's like to be in a classroom!
I believe that children learn by doing, moving, and playing! The more concrete, relevant, and fun we can make the subject, the more they take away from the lesson. I also believe in creating life-long learners. I think we can do this by fostering an environment that nurtures curiosity and critical thinking rather than rote answers and perfect grades.
I was recently awarded with Employee of the Monthat my place of employment as well as Teacher of Exacellence from one of the Universities at which I teach.
I have a Bachelors in Early Childhood Education, Masters in Counseling, and a specialization certification in Play Therapy.
I am married and have a 6 year old daughter who teaches me where everyday! I hope that something I offer will bring a little joy to your classroom and a light to your students' eyes!
