I am currently teaching 1st grade. I have taught school for 14 years. During this time, I taught 6th grade, 7th, 8th and 9th Special Education, Resource, Kindergarten, 1st grade, and was head teacher of a one room schoolhouse serving K-3. I have also substituted for 10 years in almost every age group from kindergarten through High School in almost every subject. I am a wife of 34 years, and a mother of seven. I consider this my biggest accomplishment as a teacher. I have also served as President of the Relief Society Women's Organization, Primary children's Organization, and Young Women's Organization in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. I have taught in each of these organizations as well.
I love children of all ages, sizes and personalities! I feel they teach me much more than I could ever teach them! I believe in tough love, but also believe that we as teachers need to come to know each individual student, understand their needs and interests, and come to know their background and home life. It is so important that we listen to children and help them to be the best they can be while at the same time helping them to realize their significance in the world around them.
My greatest honor lies in the lives my children are choosing to live, and the progress I see in the children I teach.
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education at Arizona State University with a Major in Elementary Education and a minor in special Education. I am ESL certified and have an Early Childhood Education endorsement. I have also earned 60+ hours in graduate work in the areas of Elementary and Special Education.
I find joy in teaching, singing, drawing, photography, flowers, family, friends, and writing. I have recently published "Subbing With Sanity"..."A Work of the Heart", a guide to teaching with love, for all substitute and regular teachers.
