Currently a high school principal of a large comprehensive high school in California. Experience teaching kindergarten through post-secondary. After I graduated from UCLA with my undergraduate, I ran a law office and had my own business. 12 years later, I entered the field of education and FELL IN LOVE. I substitute taught all grades for one year; then, while getting my teaching credential, I taught 2nd grade bilingual for a long-term substitute position (from beginning to end of school year) followed by three years 5th and 6th grade bilingual. While working on my Masters, I taught 7th and 8th grade language arts, language arts honors, leadership, yearbook, and survey for three years; Then I moved up to the high school level and taught 9th grade English and 10th grade English - getting kids ready for the CAHSEE. During all of those years, I also taught ELD/ESL at the elementary and high school level, as well as for adults. I also taught teacher candidates for University of La Verne - Children's Literature and Foundations of Education class - for a few years while I was a High School Assistant Principal. Now I've been a high school principal for the past six and a half years - missing the intimacy of the classroom, but enjoying the positive impact on my 3300+ students' education.
Balanced literacy - standards-based; whole child. Focused on creating classroom community where focus was on being creative, rigorous and relevant and ensuring students were engaged in learning critical thinking, problem solving, and having the ability to communicate effectively in writing and in speaking. Emphasis was always to provide the high quality education I wanted for my own two children - the absolute best - holding rigorous expectations while providing the necessary support and scaffolding to be successful
