This was a coloring page we put together for our Daycare's Mother's Day Tea Party. The children loved coloring this page, mothers loved the little gift, and it matches the Mother's Day Tea invitation (in my shop).

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Art and Spanish Teacher at The Early Learning Center at Medford Daycare - Jan 2012 – Sept 2013 Student Teacher for the Visual Arts at Riverside High School Sept 4 – Dec 13 2013

MY TEACHING STYLE

Everyone is an artist, you just need to find your medium. It may be clay, words, paint, pencils, video, textiles...art is all around us. I aim to encourage students of all ages to look past photo realism and embrace the new and different. After all, if I wanted something to look like a photo we can easily take one using a camera, a phone, an iPod, and tons of other devices. What makes visual art interesting is that it is something different, a different perspective that the artist sees that no one else may think of. I want to teach students to see the beauty of the world and how they are surrounded by art.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Hello, I am Maria Smith and I am a nerdy art lover who eats enough candy to put her dentist's kids through college. A pop culture junkie and sometimes-foodie, I currently live in NJ with my pets. When I am not teaching or making art, I write a food review blog and make tutorials for different mediums which I post online. You can see some of my tutorials on my website: http://poison-and-antidote.net . I am available for design, commissioned clay work, digital coloring, photo editing, and acrylic-based paintings. If you are in need of some artsy educational assistance, I would be happy to help you.
