I teach year 8 maths and science in the Queensland education system. I also teach high school special education. This means that I have produced a lot of worksheets and Power Points that have step by step scaffolding to assist students working through problems for both mathematics and science. I also teach Life Skills style classes which include budgeting, finding a job, finding a house/unit to rent. This year I will also be teaching English in the Special Education area around the year 10 curriculum. I previously worked as a Oral Health Therapist for the Health Department so a lot of my life skills teaching also includes health care topics.
I differentiate the materials to be taught for the needs of the students in my class. I use a lot of Power Points and visuals so that I can cater for students with Hearing Impairments, visual learners, and those that just don't want to listen to a teacher warble on. My students like the structure of the Power Points and I am then able to email this work home to students who have been absent for a lesson or have students work through the PowerPoint independently to catch up on work.
I graduated from education with a 6.75 GPA (out of 7).
Diploma of Oral Health Bachelor of Arts (Australian Comparative Studies) Graduate Diploma Health Administration & Information Systems Bachelor of Education (with Distinction)
I have been teaching for 10 years. During that time I have adapted my work to cater for the individual needs and interests of students from one year to another. My health industry background prior to teaching has provided me with a perspective of life beyond the classroom.
