I have taught high school ELA and Reading for fourteen years, with most of my years spent in 9th and 10th grade Standard, Honors, and Intensive Reading classes. However, 10th grade is truly my jam! I was also a district specialist for three years, where I developed ELA/reading curriculum, wrote CCSS-aligned assessments, and supported secondary reading coaches and new teachers. I have designed curriculum and professional development for grades 6-12 in various courses, including ACT prep, technology-based reading intervention classes, and AP Lang/Lit. My teaching journey has taken me to two different states (California and Florida) and one South American country (Colombia), in both urban and suburban environments.
Above all, I believe that we can empower our students by exposing them to great literature that pushes them to question the world around them! I like to engage my students with high-interest reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. I have fully embraced the shifts with the new standards, and I love helping my students develop their confidence and critical thinking skills as they navigate complex texts and increasingly challenging writing tasks. I enjoy pairing modern texts with the classics, and I love incorporating techie tools into my lessons!

I'm a fan of all things related to books, teaching, cats, and coffee. I absolutely love teaching high school English, and I look forward to developing my store and interacting with other educators. I also speak fluent Spanish and can offer translated versions of my products! Thanks to Erin over at E is for Explore for the awesome store logo and banners!
