Taught in the UK for a year or two, and have been in Japan since 2010, was an ALT for a couple of years and am now a Secondary school maths teacher at an English immersion school. Most of my experience has been with ESL and EAL learners where visual aids can be key!
I believe in investing my time in building a variety of resources making my job easier and more effective as the years go by. I like to let the Powerpoint lead the class and have myself act as a guide. Pressing buttons and clarifying the kids' understanding is easier for me than making up everything on the spot! I am a fan of using technology in the classroom and have a lot of fun with students using the ActivExpression controllers by Promethean.
Nothing special, but I am a teacher who works as hard as I can. I have a family so it's tough to find the work/home balance, but I am sure with the resources I make, I'll be able to reuse them and have more time at home.
Took a BSc in Mathematics at the University of Wales in Aberystwyth and received a PGCE in Mathematics for 11 - 18 year olds in Bangor University.
As a teacher in Japan teaching Mathematics in English, following the Japanese curriculum, there are no real resource packs for a teacher teaching in English to follow. Generally, I must make everything that I use in the classroom and wish to continue to build on my own set of resources. I may as well share them! Thanks to the resources I've made, I don't need to spend nearly as much time on my lessons as I used to and have been able to spend time on other things. I am now Grade Head, subject head (junior high) and in charge of Student Council. Not bad for my age I guess!
