TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for 19 years. I have primarily taught Spanish I, Spanish II, Italian I, and Italian II at the high school level. I have some experience teaching middle school Italian, as well as Italian III. In addition, I have taught English as a Second Language at the high school level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I remember doing a grammar lesson in Italian while I was student teaching. My supervisor made a suggestion that influenced my teaching from that day forward. "Don't teach them the rules, let them discover the rules." Since that day, I try to design lessons that cause students to think critically about examples and to observe patterns. They enjoy trying to "figure it out." You will find that many of my lessons give students the opportunity to "discover" before moving into "practice." I prefer to present learning material and opportunities for practice "step by step" in an organized, systematic approach.
