I have a Bachelor's Degree from Hofstra University in Speech-Language Pathology & a Master's Degree from the University of Tennessee in Early Childhood/Modified Special Education. My classroom is a High Scope Certified Classroom and I am certified to teach the Hanen Program, Learning Language & Loving it!. I have provided speech-language services in the publics schools to studdents in grades Pre-K-high school. I have also taught a special education preschool class including students with various disabilities (Autism, cognitive impairments, Language & Speech Impairments, Physical & Health Disabilities, etc.). Currently, I teach a speech-language group to preschoolers who have speech and language deficits. In addition, I am facilitating monthly trainings for public school teachers in language interventions through the Hanen program Learning Language & Loving It.
I use a multi-modal approach in my classroom, which includes tactile, kinesthetic, auditory and visual modalities to teach communication, social interaction skills, pre-academic and pre-vocational skills. I also embedd activities into the daily routine to ensure mastery of skills. I create opportunities for active learning and promote activities that are engaging and developmentally appropriate. My classroom is a safe, caring and exciting place where children are encouraged to take risks and learn new skills. I use reasearch based strategies and scaffolding to teach and maintain important early literacy, academic, communication, life and social skills. I feel that all children can be successful given the opportunity!
