When teaching habitats in the primary grades, I liked to make different kinds of question sheets and review, but also needed to make sure the work was simple. In order to be able to use it in a center or as an independent worksheet, I used pictures

Depending on the students, I sometimes need to create questions for every chapter, while other times an end-of-book review is most successful. In this case, the student I made this for needed a quick assessment that addressed the key points from the

As a special education teacher, my students tend to have goals about sequencing a story. One way I work on this is to provide them with the main points of the story once they have finished the book. Then, they take the strips, cut them out, and

Between bathroom breaks, trips to the water fountain, sessions with various school specialists...sometimes it seems impossible to keep track of everyone. I post this by my door to help remind the students to sign out and let me know where they are

After scouring the internet for tons of different brain break ideas, I compiled my favorites, typed them up and made them into individual cards. I then laminated them and cut them out to have on hand.

I did this as a beginning-of-year activity last year. The kids could write any 5 books they loved, even if it was a young picture book. They then wrote why they picked their first choice. Perhaps it was funny, or they have memories of mom reading

Behavior checklists are great...until the child goes to recess or somewhere less structured. I've used this with impulsive students and students that need social reminders. I print it small (you can make one long list or a smaller back-to-back one)

I love doing this activity, especially in my self-contained classes, where students often need a self-esteem boost. This is a fun, quick back-to-school activity. Each child fills out a page for the class book. Their picture goes in the box and

This is a quick math activity that can be done individually or in groups. The student(s) simply rolls a dice to create numbers. At the end, they then have to identify the largest number that they have created.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a teacher for 14 years, though I am currently home with my little munchkins. I'm a special education teacher, but have done co-teaching, inclusion/CTD (with the title of that support changing practically every year) and self-contained. I've taught in various grades, with my most recent grade being 4th. I hope you find some of my stuff helpful! :)

MY TEACHING STYLE

Artsy and creative! I'm still learning how to make things a bit "prettier" on the computer (as opposed to chart paper), but I can frequently be heard talking about making "pretty little pictures." I think it stems from being a visual learner, in addition to always thinking of ways to help students see and learn different concepts.
