I have nearly 20 years of teaching experience in the primary grades. I am currently teaching first grade, where I love to watch students' reading and writing take off!
I believe in taking all children as they are when they enter my classroom and moving them forward, regardless of the skills they have in place. This may mean celebrating that some students are reading simple texts at the end of the year, while striving to help others think more deeply about the challenging texts they are able to read. In math is may mean cheering when a child finally writes to 100 or cheering when a child learns their multiplication facts in first grade. Differentiation is the key to my teaching.
