As a teacher of ELL and bilingual students, I am conscious of making my instruction comprehensible and engaging for all students. I incorporate ELL strategies, differentiated instruction, as well as the arts to keep things accessible and interesting.
Increased the percentage of students, including ELLs and IEPs, meeting common core standards on the REACH literacy assessment from 37% at the beginning of the year to 96% at the end of the year, the highest in the school. Part of a team of teachers that increased the number of first grade students, including ELLs, reading at or above grade level from 55% at the beginning of this year to 91% by the spring.
