I am a 15 year teacher in a public suburban school setting. I have taught at the Prekindergarten through Sixth Grade level, and as a professional development educator in technology for IBM. I have spent the most time as a first grade teacher.
As a primary teacher I tend to lean towards progressive research based practices. I believe that being flexible and adaptive is key at this level. I maintain a positive relationship with parents to maximize the success of my students. I still keep a stack of my most heartfelt notes from parents and students in my desk for days that don't go the way I planned.
I have trained teachers in educational technology, been a presenter and steering committee member for a local conference. In my district I am a member of several district committees, a scorer and scoring leader for state tests. I am a member, and hold 3 technology positions for an International Society of Key women educators. I hold the position of state webmaster for the same organization. I have been a presenter at a state level meeting.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a concentration in Spanish and a Masters of Science in Educational Technology from SUNY College at Buffalo. In the last 15 years, I have hundreds of hours of staff development.
I have a passion and connection to technology that I share with students and staff. From my Commodore 64, to my current Mac I have always enjoyed teaching others how technology can make their education and lives easier, more effective and convenient. I love using it to motivate and engage reluctant learners. Staff often stop by for assistance.
