Most recently, I've been working with a Dominican dentist, an U.S. doctor, and an AMAZING Dominican principal on a dental research project. We're looking at the effect of fluoride varnish on students ages 6-11 when the varnish is applied by teachers. No one has every studied the impact of fluoride varnish like this before--so we're pretty excited! I studied abroad in Madrid for a semester, and since then I've spent summers in Mexico and Bolivia doing volunteer work for some pretty awesome NGO's.
I teach middle school and high school Spanish. My students have a very wide range of readiness and pace, so I design lessons to be interesting and challenging for everyone while providing enough structure and support for students who need a little more time and practice.
Shining Teacher Moment: Several older students stopped by my classroom to complain that their younger siblings WILL NOT STOP SINGING THOSE ANNOYING SPANISH SONGS! Another student spent a whole year writing love letters to her crush IN SPANISH! It was like using a secret code...
I have a degree in Spanish literature--concentrating on the short stories of Jorge Luis Borges.
Last summer I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with my brothers!
