TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The Art Institute of San Antonio, Adjunct Interior Design Instructor, 2013-Present The Incarnate Word, San Antonio, TX, Adjunct Interior Design Instructor, 2017-Present

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching is based on being organized and somewhat structured. I attempt to give the information in a clear and concise way so that my students are not confused on what is expected of them. I stress to my students that being consistently on time with their work even if it’s incomplete is the way to be recognized rather than being late and complete. As well as being consistent and organized, I work to foster critical thinking skills. I do this by using my expertise and give examples of what could happen in the work force, and then ask the students what they would do differently. Also, I am a firm believer in peer critique. This was something I learned to love through time during my professional career. I believe it’s easy to critique someone when it’s someone’s clothes or something superficial, but when you’re asked to give criticism on another student’s project, the student giving the criticism needs to be more thoughtful. This will help the students in their career to give clear feedback to another designer. It is also important to gather the feedback from your fellow students for motivation to make your project better.
