I had the privilege of teaching grades 5-8 for 26 years. My subject areas were history and English and my last 5 years were spent in the gifted program. Now I am happily helping to homeschool my precious granddaughter and other homeschoolers by teaching social studies classes and being a helper in a homeschool enrichment program. I also taught history part time on an army base and creative writing in adult education classes in our local high schools.
I am very informal and firmly believe that kids need to understand that what they are doing has relevance to their lives. I emphasize student involvement and always attempt to make the subject matter lively and interesting.
I was teacher of the year at two different schools and was chosen to be a gifted teacher from a huge group of applicants. I helped create the curriculum for several different gifted programs and was chosen to head an experimental program that combined social studies and gifted. Several times I was offered positions in administration but always refused them because I wanted contact with the kids.
I have a Bachelor's degree in history from the University of Houston and a Masters degree in Political Science from Georgia State University. I finished all the course work for a PhD and as I began the work for my dissertation I discovered I was pregnant and decided to give it up to devote as much time as possible to my two precious children.
Since leaving teaching I have been self employed in several businesses, all of which I enjoyed. Then I discovered graphic design and it was love at first sight! I can't wait to wake up in the morning and see what wonderful creations will inspire me during this bright day. Life is grand!
