TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an 8th Grade English teacher for 7 years. Before that, I worked in public and university libraries and radio production.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style varies for purposes of student need, but is largely traditional, due to the large number of students that I have each year that fall below grade level. I think that Direct Instruction serves a vast majority of students well and have found that the Gradual Release model (I Do, We Do, You Do) helps cement concepts.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

My students declared me "Best Rapper" in 2016 because I beat one of them in an impromptu rap battle. Reading poetry pays off, friends.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a Masters Degree in Middle Grades English Education, a Masters in Library Science, and am pursuing National Board Certification.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a decided introvert who is really just after a quiet life with meaningful relationships and meaningful work. I am a mom to two boys, a wife to a social worker, and a nerd that is kind of obsessed with Jane Austen, loves reading, holidays, ghost stories, and video games.

Teachers Pay Teachers

Teachers Pay Teachers is an online marketplace where teachers buy and sell original educational materials.
