TEACHING EXPERIENCE

For about a decade I have had the opportunity to teach at an inner-city magnet school in a Title I school district. During this time, I taught a range of classes consisting of PreAP Chemistry, PreAP Algebra I, PreAP Algebra II, PreAP Geometry, PreAP and Dual Enrollment Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My classroom operates under an inquiry-based method of curriculum delivery where the students are presented with a board task or problem to solve on their own. They then rely on probing questions, their prior knowledge, and each other to explore the new material being discussed and discover the math collectively as opposed to each student learning it via the traditional lecture style of learning.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry and a Master’s of Science in Mathematics.

The success I have seen from implementing inquiry based learning in my classroom has taught me the importance of different teaching strategies and techniques that should always be incorporated in the classroom. It also requires a large variety of differentiated instructional materials for each lesson you intend to have the students persist through to reach all students no matter their level. Thus, Unique Primes curriculum was born.
