In 2004, after years of working with athletes of all ages in the traditional sports medicine setting, I opened my own children's gym. For 15 years, we successfully helped children of all ages develop mentally and physically by focusing on large and small motor skills, core strength, and bilateral coordination. My son's own struggle with SPD inspired our staff to develop an early learning alternative that utilized movements designed to help with physical development while simultaneously fostering neural pathways in the brain. We fell in love with both the curriculum and the families that benefited from the program. As he grew older I continued to modify these concepts, eventually deciding to home school so that we could fully embrace the idea of sensory motor learning. I am now transitioning away from my full-time role as owner and curriculum director at our gym to build an online presence, sharing the tips, tricks, and tools that we love.
My role is to support sensory needs during the learning process to improve comprehension, retention, and enjoyment.
