I have taught for 15 years in an urban setting with 50-75% of my students qualifying for free lunch. Although I have taught all subjects in multiple grades, my passion for the past eight years has been math. I have been a trainer for Everyday Math and I piloted their newest Common Core Edition for 6th grade.
I believe that a balanced approach is best in math. Some teacher-directed time, some group and partner time, and some individual time. I use the concepts of Lesson Study in my lessons daily, focusing on discussion and misconceptions to deepen understanding. I also integrate technology through SMARTBoard lessons and Google Classroom.

I have an M.S. Ed. in Middle School Math from DePaul University and an M. Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University. My undergrad work was in Elementary Education at Malone University.
