I am currently in my sixteenth year of teaching. I spent thirteen years in first grade and looped up with one of my classes three years ago. I have extensive training in phonics and reading strategies. However, I also teach math, science, and social studies. I have taught a special education collaborative classroom for fourteen years. I have also been in charge of an afterschool program in which I worked with students from Kindergarten through fifth grade.
I have taught from a teacher centered method of delivery and instruction; however, I am currently teaching from a student centered approach. By teaching special education, I have also incorporated differentiation in all of my lessons.
I have always received exemplary evaluations from my administrators and county superintendents. I think one of the greatest honors I continue to receive is having a parent thank me for loving their child and providing them with the best education possible. The other greatest honor I receive is having a previous student walk into my classroom to thank me for caring and believing in them, while handing me an invitation to their high school graduation.
I graduated second in my high school class. I graduated with honors and received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong State University. I went on to get my Master's Degree in school counseling and psychology from Troy State University, where I also graduated with honors.
I am a wife, mother, and teacher. Over the years, the paperwork and increased demands on me have made it hard to juggle family and work. I have created various activities over the last sixteen years because I enjoy making flipcharts and other activities for my students. I'm not sure why it took this long to occur to me; however, I found myself thinking about the other teachers out there who may struggle with time to meet their family and job demands. Therefore, why not share what I have made over the years. So, here goes. I hope someone can find some value in some of the things I have created.
